History of Providence Christian High School
Providence Christian High School was founded in 2000 by parents who saw the need for a Christian high school to serve the needs of Christian families in Butte, Glenn, and Tehama counties. Founding Board members Eugene and Laurel Cleek, Erick and Margie Nielsen, and Chris and Lori Verboom sought to establish an educational environment that would not only be academically rigorous, but spiritually nourishing.

First classes were held at the Orland Evangelical Free Church, with 8 students.  The next year, the school moved to a vacant house on the Nielsen property.   For the next two years, classes were held at First Assembly of God in Orland.

In 2004 Providence merged with Oak Tree Christian Schools to form North Valley Christian Schools, and the two governing boards merged as one.   The next year Providence moved to the current NVCS campus, joining Oak Tree on that site.

Mike Bryan, Russell Wiesner, and Mike Wyser served in succession as principals until the two schools merged to the NVCS campus.  At that time, Gordon Wiens became Superintendent of the two schools.

Providence alumni have already distinguished themselves as college athletes, university graduates, medical school students, high school and elementary school teachers, and members of the U.S. Navy.
